Kelly Oshiro

As editor of Santa Barbara Chic, I showcase the best local talent in the Santa Barbara Area. As former wedding planner I am intimately familiar with all the locations and vendors that make up the Santa Barbara wedding community. My goal is to present the best local talent and help couples find the vendors that are right for them. I also highlight the best of Santa Barbara lifestyle. Food, travel, cocktails, and flowers are all featured on the blog regularly. Not to mention shoes… I'm a bit of a shoeaholic...

Marin County

I grew up in the bay area, half of my childhood was spent in beautiful Marin County. I love the rolling green hills and these particular trees that dot the landscape that will forever be the rock of my creative inspirations

Gwyneth

When my future husband and I were ring shopping, I became quite enamored with estate and heirloom style rings. I love bezel set diamonds and this ring, Gwyneth, has all the features I love. A large center stone, metal tooling details and bezel set diamonds through out, you know this ring is quite a sparkle party.

Mira

I love spending time with puppy head, Mira!

Maxi's and Cardi's

My personal fashion style I would describe as pretty and practical. Living in Santa Barbara, things are definitely more skewed to the casual side. For an around the town outfit, I like this pretty printed maxi by Anthropolgie layered with a loose weave cardigan (also from Anthro). For shoes, it’s all about these cute and timeless flip from JCrew.

A California Girl's Bestfriend

I can’t live without good tacos!!!

Collections

I love looking for pretty objects in antique and vintage stores (this is my collection of old medicine bottles and milk bottles in a cabinet I bought at the Pasadena Flea).

We are Wildcats

For a fun night out, I love to hang out with a few good friends, enjoy a really tasty meal and some strong cocktails or champagne. From there, I would finish the night off with a dance party at the Wildcat.

Travel

My favorite place to visit is the tiny Hamlet of Granchester, just outside of Cambridge, England . Here there is an old apple orchard that has been serving tea and scones for more than a hundred years to students, tourists and locals.

Santa Barbara

When I was planning my wedding the natural beauty of Santa Barbara and the relaxed vibe that runs throughout the city, inspired me to create an intimate (we had only 84 guests!) and highly personalized celebration.

Down the Aisle

To incorporate the natural beauty of Santa Barbara, I got married under an oak tree that I dressed simply with green chiffon to make a modern version of a chuppa.

Succulents

I had succulents in my bouquet and throughout my flowers. This was both a nod to the nature of Santa Barbara and also reminded me of my childhood hikes with my dad where we would clip succulents and bring them home (he still has some of those original clippings in his garden today).

Bridesmaid

For my bridal party, I kept it simple, just my sister stood up with me, and my husband’s brother stood up for him.

Something Special

Perhaps one of the most touching moments of my day was when my Officiant, a good friend and former roommate, started crying just as ceremony started.

A Style All My Own

For my reception design, I wanted a classic feel with modern and clean elements. I made custom runners in black & white damask with green silk and modern white chargers, the menus had a simple tree punch. The biggest hit before dinner, was the fact that we didn't do bread and butter on the tables, but challah and nutella, one of my husband’s favorite snacks.

Sundaes

For dessert too, we kept it personal… neither of us particularly care for cake, but ice cream sundaes and root beer floats? Done and done.

Sparkle

If I were planning my wedding this year, I would totally rock these insane sparkly shoes by Kate Spade. They’d go so very nicely with the Gwyneth ring!

Finishing Touches

To finish my wedding day look, I chose a pair of oversized dangly earrings and a simple and short veil finished with satin ribbon. For my dress, I altered a long dress to make it tea length (much easier to dance in and I could show off my pretty shoes).
